Arrangement: Students are to arrange either 1 of their original compositions or a piece of the student’s choosing for 3 instruments. The arrangement will conform to conventions discussed in class. Accompanied by the arrangement will be a short written journal with a work plan, where students are to discuss different iterations and the process involved in creating the arrangement.

I chose the song 'Hypnotized' by Fleetwood Mac as it's one of my favourite songs of theirs, it's relatively simple and repetitive, and I thought it would be a great song for a Jazz ensemble to play. That's really all there is to this one!

I wrote for voice, guitar, bass, piano and drums. I learned in class and workshop that when writing for jazz players, you want to keep it clear to read, simple, and if things are repeating a lot you fill the bars with slash lines. As this song is very repetitive, I have done that a lot! I think once they have the main idea of the song, being jazz players they can jam and improvise on it. I was lucky to have found sheet music for this song so I did a lot of copying from that on to the Muse Score software which ended up being very time consuming but gave me a good idea of how to use the programme.

Unfortunately, I couldn't make the recording session with the jazz ensemble so this piece ended up never being played.
